Beginner Landscape Workshops: 24-26 Nov & 15-17 Dec 2017

24th October 2017

I am planning on running two Beginner's Landscape Photography workshops this winter in West Kerry - on the weekends of the 24-26th of November and the 15-17th of December. Each workshop is limited to just two people. The small number of participants means I will be able to give each person plenty of tuition.

The courses are aimed at people new to photography who want to learn how to get more from their camera so they can make better landscape images. The focus will be on being outside as much as possible, using the camera in the field, rather than staying indoors and talking theory all the time. I will explain the various functions cameras can perform, the use of filters for controlling exposure, how to plan for a shoot and include a brief introduction to processing techniques, among other things.

The Dingle Peninsula has no shortage of amazing landscapes and the winter weather is often the best for dramatic conditions. Both courses will begin on the Friday night (or Saturday morning if it suits people better) and finish up on Sunday afternoon. Accommodation is provided near the village of Ballyferriter, ten minutes west of Dingle town. Breakfast is included each morning. The cost per person is €350. If you have your own accommodation arranged contact me about a cheaper rate.

What to Bring
- A DSLR camera (If you do not have a DSLR camera but would be interested in the course I can provide one for the weekend)
- At least one memory card and battery and charger
- Tripod (I can provide one if needed)
- Walking boots or wellingtons for rough, wet ground
- Rain gear, warm clothing and a backpack for carrying your gear
- A reasonable level of fitness (for walking to and from locations off the beaten track)
- A sense of humour (you might need it to survive the weather!)

Non-Essential Extras
- Filters (polarising/neutral density)
- Remote shutter release cable
- Lens cloth
- Spare memory cards and batteries
- Laptop

If you are using a Canon camera I have some lenses I can lend during the weekend, as well as spare batteries and memory cards.

Above all the workshop will be informal and fun. The technical aspects of photography can be a quite daunting when you're starting out, especially if you're not naturally drawn to gadgets. I've always been more interested in being outside and using the camera than in obsessing over the technical details of the gear. As such I will be focusing more on helping you get images you're happy with than explaining the intricacies of sensor technology and lens elements. So don't be put off if you think you don't know anything!

If you have any questions get in touch on the contact page.

If you're interested in doing a workshop but these times don't suit then contact me about one to one tuition. I am available for half, single and multiple days in Kerry and Cork and will do my best to tailor sessions to your individual needs.
